| ANTON OTTO FISCHER (1882-1962) was born in Germany , orphaned at an early age, and ran away to a life at sea when he was 16 years old. He came to New York City in 1903. Apparently self-taught, Fischer specialized in nautical images and illustrated many of the classic books such as Moby Dick and Treasure Island. He also produced work for the Saturday Evening Post and the United States Coast Guard. This is an original oil painting on canvas entitled "Sailing Into the Sunset". This piece has a minor stretcher bar indentation along the top and a small stain in the top right corner but, otherwise, is in excellent condition. The canvas measures 28" x 26" and has been framed to an overall size of 31.75" x 29.5".
