CHARLES DESHAYES (French 1831-1895) painted Romantic landscape images of the rural country side.

This image of a riverside landscape, while less detailed, possesses the pastoral quality of his Hudson River School contemporaries in the United States, who painted with a much more realistic approach. This oil painting on canvas measures 26.5" x 16.75" and has been ornately framed to an overall size of 32.5" x 22.75". There are four pin holes in the canvas: 1 immediately to the right of the signature in the bottom right corner; 1 about 1" above and slighty to the left of the signature; 1 about 1/2" to the right of the main boat image; and 1 about 2-1/2" inches to the right and slightly above the front of the main boat. There is also an indentation scrape just to the right of the road in the image near the lower part of the painting. Additionally, there has been extensive overpainting to the sky area and inpainting to the tree areas.
