CIVIL WAR ERA MILITARY CORRESPONDANCE/WILLIAM MAYNADIER

CIVIL WAR ERA MILITARY CORRESPONDANCE / WILLIAM MAYNADIER

Hand-written correspondance from William Maynadier, head of the Ordinance department to J.T. Ames. It reads:

"Washington Ap'l 18th 1859 / My dear sir; / The Colonel's letter to the Sec. of War, asking authority to order a 12 pd gun and 100 projectiles from you, for trial with other rifled cannon, has just come back 'approved' -- I suppose you will receive notice and instructions in detail, or engineers, about the gun and shot, today or tomorrow. / Yours truly, Wm Maynadier / Capt. Maynadier April 18th 1859"

The letter measures 4.5" x 7" and was folded for mailing, but is otherwise in very good condition. Also included is a mimeographed sheet giving some information about the letter.
