EDWARD GIBBON - HANDWRITTEN LETTER (1748)
EDWARD GIBBON (d. 1770) was the father of Edward Emily Gibbon, author of the famous tome The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (six volumes, 1776-1788).
A letter written by one John Harris to Gibbon, who was his landlord, dated 11-17-1748, concerning cattle and indicating the location of Gibbon's tenants. Pencil notations, folds and fold wear, overall wrinkling and tanning, very good condition overall. Also included is the "translation" of the 19th century handwriting, provided by the Lincoln Library organization.
