FREEMONT ELLIS - "DESERT FORMS" Oil circa 1950

FREEMONT ELLIS - "DESERT FORMS" ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING

FREEMONT ELLIS (1897-1985) was a self taught artist who's only formal training was three months spent at the Art Students League in New York. In 1921, in Santa Fe, he and four other young painters formed the modernists art group, Los Cinco Pintores. Ellis' landscape paintings are, however, more closely associated with the American Impressionists. Click here to learn more about this artist.

This is an original oil painting on canvas over masonite board entitled "Desert Forms". Given the condition of the painting and the frame, it was probably painted prior to 1950. It is signed in the bottom left corner. The masonite board measures 29.5" x 23.5" and has been framed to an overall size of 37" x 31".
