GEORGE FIELDING ELIOT - SIGNED LETTER TO HARPER'S 1938
MAJ. GEORGE FIELDING ELIOT - SIGNED LETTER TO HARPER'S (1938)
GEORGE FIELDING ELIOT (1894-1971), a Major in the U. S. Army's Military Intelligence Reserve, was a writer, lecturer and broadcaster about military affairs and national defence for more than 30 years. Some of Eliot's more infamous quotes include "War between Japan and the United States is not within the realm of possibility" and "A Japanese attack on Pear Harbor is a strategic impossibility" (both Sept. 1938).
A letter dated 2-16-38 from Eliot to George Leighton, and editor with Harper's Magazine, regarding an article being written on Eliot. This note is an additional insight into Eliot's misplaced arrogance. Signed by Eliot; folded for mailing, otherwise very good condition.
