NEWS PHOTO: "NEW YORK KILLER" ELMER BURKE CAPTURED (1955)
NEWS PHOTO - Elmer "Trigger" Burke: Burke was a notorious hit man during the mid-to-late 1940s. In 1941, he was sent to reform school, but later had his sentence cut for joining the service, where he served in the Italian campaign. Later, he served a sentence of two years in Sing Sing Prison for robbery and during this time, his idol and brother, Charlie, was murdered by a man named George Goll. Burke got revenge by shooting Goll in Manhattan. Later, in 1952, he murdered Edward "Poochy" Walsh because he was irritated, and no longer wished to be called the "Trigger." He preferred the name "Killer." Burke was sentenced to death and was executed in Sing Sing's electric chair on 9 January 1958.
8" x 10" photo, dated 8-29-55 on the reverse. Very good condition with crop marks, corner creasing and surface wear.
